Major Dulles Toll Road Traffic Shift To Begin In McLean

Dulles Toll Road drivers will soon see a temporary eastbound lane split at Route 123 in McLean for bridge work.

MCLEAN, VA — Drivers on the eastbound Dulles Toll Road should prepare for a temporary lane split at Route 123 in McLean beginning Thursday night, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Weather permitting, the new traffic pattern will begin around 10 p.m. June 25 on the eastbound Dulles Toll Road, also known as Route 267, at Route 123, or Dolley Madison Boulevard.

Under the temporary configuration, the right lane of the eastbound Dulles Toll Road will continue straight, while the left lane will be diverted left through a temporary crossover onto the eastbound Dulles Airport Access Road, VDOT said.

The lane split is expected to remain in place for about 18 months as part of the Dulles Toll Road eastbound bridge rehabilitation project over Route 123.

Bridge Work Planned Over Route 123

VDOT said the traffic shift will allow crews to work safely on the eastbound Dulles Toll Road bridge over Route 123 while limiting disruptions to traffic.

All eastbound Dulles Toll Road ramps to and from Route 123 will remain open during the work, according to VDOT.

The project includes replacing the bridge’s concrete deck, parapets and steel beams; repairing piers and abutments; and replacing the overhead sign structure on the eastbound Dulles Toll Road just before the bridge.

The bridge rehabilitation project is scheduled to be completed in early 2028.

Drivers Urged To Use Caution

VDOT reminded drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians to use caution in active work zones, watch for new traffic patterns and limit distractions.
