• Mount Vernon's Colonial Market & Fair Returns Sept. 19–20 (thezebra.org subscription) — Mount Vernon residents can step into an 18th-century-style marketplace when George Washington's Mount Vernon hosts its Colonial Market & Fair on Sept. 19–20, included with regular admission. Dozens of artisans will demonstrate traditional crafts, sell handmade wares, and offer a family-friendly, highly visual history experience just minutes from home.
• Fairfax County authorizes police to crack down on properties with recurring criminal activity (ffxnow.com) — Fairfax County has approved a new criminal blight ordinance, prompted in part by persistent problem properties in the Mount Vernon District. Starting Oct. 1, police and county officials will have a clearer, faster civil process to push landlords to fix sites tied to recurring drugs, prostitution, or gunfire, with the county able to step in and bill owners if they don't act.
