Explore George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens with the History Interpreter and Resident Fifer, Don Francisco.
On this tour, you will explore the Mount Vernon Estate and mansion house. Learn about the importance of music in the American Revolution, from critical communication to enjoyable entertainment, and about the Enslaved Community. Visit the Slave Memorial and Cemetery and participate in a moving wreath laying ceremony at George and Martha Washington’s tomb. The tour will conclude with a walk to the boat dock and 16-sided barn.
Participants must be able to walk about a mile on gravel paths. The walk to the boat dock and barn requires walking up and down a hill and participants may choose whether to go on this portion of the tour or not.
Participants must buy grounds pass and request entry to the Mansion Interior Tour at 11:30 a.m., or closest available time. Wear comfortable walking shoes and arrive at the entry gate by 9:30 a.m. and look for an AARP sign. The AARP tour will end around 1:00 p.m. After the tour, you can visit the gift shop and enjoy lunch at the Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant.
