$100K Grand Prize Lottery Ticket Bought In Alexandria

For one out-of-stater, winning a top lottery prize was an extra perk of visiting a relative in Alexandria.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Living by the saying "family first" really does pay off. A North Carolina woman scored a $100K grand prize in the Virginia lottery during a visit to her brother.

Carolyn Adams of Raleigh, N.C. even used family birthdays as her numbers for the Dec. 4 Cash 5 drawing: 4-8-12-15-2. It turned out her numbers matched all five of the winners, earning her the top prize.

“I couldn’t believe it!” she said. “I told my husband, ‘I think I hit!’”

She bought the winning ticket at the 331 South Whiting Street 7-Eleven in Alexandria. With that kind of luck, maybe Adams will want to visit her brother more often.

It was a perfect bonding experience for the siblings, who both enjoy playing the lottery. “We always compare Virginia and North Carolina numbers together,” she said.
