2 Cops, Driver Hurt In Police Chase Across The DMV

DC cop, VA trooper and driver injured in police chase that looped from the District to Prince George's County to Alexandria, officials said.

ALEXANDRIA — A Metro DC police officer, a Virginia state trooper and a driver were all injured in a police chase that looped from the District to Prince George's County, Maryland, to Alexandria, officials said.

According to a news release from Virginia State Police, officers with the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department conducted a traffic stop Wednesday night on a white Range Rover. The driver refused to stop and struck an MPD officer who was on foot.

About 3:36 a.m. Thursday, Prince George’s County Police officers located and attempted to stop the suspect vehicle in their jurisdiction, authorities said. The driver again refused to stop, and a chase began that crossed the Woodrow Wilson Bridge into Virginia.

Virginia state troopers joined the pursuit after it crossed the bridge and continued on Interstate 495 southbound.

State police said the suspect vehicle struck an uninvolved vehicle that had moved to the left shoulder to yield to the pursuit. The suspect then crossed the travel lanes and collided with a Virginia State Police vehicle.

The trooper suffered minor injuries but was not taken to an area hospital. The uninvolved driver who was struck was taken to an area hospital.

A second Virginia state trooper contained the suspect vehicle following the crash.

The suspect, Titus Z. Mayo, 22, of Winterville, North Carolina, was taken to an area hospital. Mayo faces charges from Virginia State Police for eluding, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license, as well as additional traffic-related offenses.
