ALEXANDRIA, VA — Two developments and three homes were named winners of the 2022 Alexandria Architecture Award by the Alexandria Beautification Commission.

The commission had sought nominations that "speak to the historical character and future of the City, inspire others to enhance the beauty and architecture of their properties, and help make Alexandria a creative, dynamic community," according to a news release. Nominations were provided by the public and commission members who toured the city.

To determine the winners, the commission evaluated aesthetic improvements through novel or creative architectural design, historical restoration or commitment to architecture, and sustainable design practices.

"Great architecture, like those recognized this year encourage us to get out, enjoy our City, and meet our friends and neighbors," said Cohen. "It also inspires each of us to do our part to make Alexandria an even more amazing place to live, work, and visit."

Robinson Landing is a development of 26 condominiums and 70 townhouses along the waterfront. The development was recognized for including "historical elements and lessons" and serving as a gathering space for residents and visitors. The commission also recognized the care the development took for the excavation of artifacts during construction.

The Eisenhower Square development by Toll Brothers is a 67-home luxury development. The commission recognized the development for its "innovative architecture that enhances the City with a walkable, visually stimulating neighborhood."

The 128 and 128A East Walnut Street were recognized for "innovative architectural design" beyond the standard residential duplex. The award goes to Beaconcrest Homes and the owners of the homes.

The 1208 Trinity Drive home was recognized for modern design blended with historical aspects. The commission said the architecture "evoke[s] the sense of tradition, history, and neighborliness Alexandria is known for."
