5 People Displaced From Alexandria Apartment Fire

One person had non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the two-alarm fire.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—At least five people have been displaced after a fire at an Alexandria apartment building Sunday morning.

Around 6 a.m., crews responded to the 4300 block of Raleigh Avenue. Firefighters found smoke and fire from the fourth floor to the roof. After requesting a second alarm, units quickly put out the fire.

One person was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Alexandria Fire Department. The displaced residents include three adults and two children. Red Cross has offered assistance.

Damages are estimated to be $450K. Five units were determined to be inhabitable due to water, smoke and fire damages.

Fire investigators say improperly discarded smoking materials started the fire on a balcony. The Fairfax and Arlington County fire departments assisted with the response.
