5 Virginia Hospitals Among Top 100 In U.S., New Ranking Shows

Five hospitals in Virginia are ranked among the top 100 clinical care facilities in the country, according to a new report released Tuesday.

The 2026 America’s Best Hospitals awards from Healthgrades, an online resource to help people find doctors and hospitals, is a three-tiered ranking of the top 50, 100 and 250 hospitals, which, respectively, represent the top 1 percent, 2 percent and 5 percent of clinical care hospitals nationwide.

In Virginia, the facility named to America’s 50 Best Hospitals was Inova Loudoun Hospital in Leesburg. This is the ninth consecutive year the hospital has made the 50 Best list.

Virginia hospitals ranked in the top 100 are:

• Inova Alexandria Hospital, Alexandria
• Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center, Midlothian
• Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center, Mechanicsville
• St. Mary's Hospital, Richmond

Hospitals in the top 250 are:

• Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital, Newport News
• Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, Fairfax
• Inova Fairfax Hospital, Falls Church
• Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center, Portsmouth

If all hospitals performed similarly to America’s 250 Best Hospitals, 211,370 lives could have been saved, Healthgrades said in a news release.

Nearly two-thirds of consumers say they’re more likely to choose a hospital with a quality award than without, highlighting the growing importance of access to objective hospital quality data, Healthgrades said. To determine the top 250 U.S. hospitals, Healthgrades evaluated clinical performance for approximately 4,500 hospitals across more than 30 common procedures and conditions.

"This year’s America’s Best Hospitals list gives patients a clearer picture of where high-quality care is delivered most consistently, helping them understand their options and feel confident in choosing the care that's right for them.”
