ALEXANDRIA, VA—With spring in full spring, there's now plenty of outdoor fun to keep you busy on the weekends.

The weekend of April 28-29 is packed with events around Alexandria. Whether you want to get some shopping done, have fun with your pet or try some hand-on activities, there's something for you this weekend.

1. Hairspray - Presented by T.C. Williams - Saturday, April 28, 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.

T.C. Williams Drama Department is proud to present Hairspray, the Musical!
The larger-than-life 60s musical about love and acceptance dances its way into audiences’ hearts April 20th – 28th for 5 shows only. Tickets are: $10 for Adults and $5 for ACPS Staff, Students; Senior Citizens. Available at the door or in advance here.

2. Alexandria's Earth Day - Saturday, April 28, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Lenny Harris Memorial Fields at Braddock Park, 1005 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria

The City of Alexandria will host the 25th Annual Alexandria Earth Day and Arbor Day celebration on Saturday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free, and food and beverages will be available for purchase.

3. Independent Bookstore Day at Hooray for Books, Saturday, April 28, 10 a.m.-8 a.m.

Hooray for Books, 1555 King St, Alexandria

Hooray for Books! has planned a daylong celebration featuring a story time, author presentation, reading therapy dog, scavenger hunt, exclusive IBD items for sale, and lots more. Click the link for a full schedule of events.

4. MV Big Flea Main Event - Saturday, April 29, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Mount Vernon Recreation Center, 2701 Commonwealth Ave, Alexandria

Support the Mount Vernon Community School by shopping at the MV Big Flea, Del Ray's biggest flea market of the year. Doors open at 7 a.m. with a $10 admission fee. Free general admission at 8 a.m. At 10:45 a.m. everything is half price and from 12:45 to close, everything is free (with a $5 entry fee).

5. Project Discovery Walkathon - Saturday, April 28, 8 a.m.

Fort Ward Park, 4401 W Braddock, Alexandria

Please come walk with us on Saturday, April 28 at Fort Ward Park to benefit Project Discovery of Alexandria, an organization that helps students who are the first in their families to attend college/university.

6. Old Town Underground | Experimental Film Program - Saturday, April 28, 1:30 p.m.

The Athenaeum, 201 Prince Street, Alexandria

Join us for the inaugural Old Town Underground Experimental Film Program featuring different types of experimental film, from slow contemplative stories to montage-y, seizure-inducing trips. Experimental films re-define the way we think about cinema and encourage filmmakers to think outside of the box. Many experimental films have inspired some of the biggest commercial films to date. Stop by the Athenaeum for an afternoon of risk-taking film works by emerging filmmakers!

7. Northern Alexandria Native Plant Sale - Saturday, April 28, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Parking lot of The Church of St. Clement at 1701 N. Quaker Lane, Alexandria

A dozen or more vendors from three states (VA, MD, and PA) will be hosted at this twice-a-year event—now in its 15th year. It is the largest native plant sale in the Washington DC area.

8. Alexandria Love Your Pet Day Block Party - Sunday, April 29, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Roth and Colvin Streets, Alexandria

Over 60 vendors and hundreds of pet owners and their furry friends are expected to attend this second annual block party. There will be food trucks, children's entertainment, interactive demonstrations and more.
