If there were any repairs, they should be noted on the receipt. Be concerned about jewelry that is too sparkly, since this means that it may be a fake, or it is an authentic piece that has been restored.

  • Older jewelers are well known for marking their jewelry so people will know who created it. If you see a piece that is supposed to be antique and it does not have any distinct markings, be wary. These markings may not be very large, but should certainly be easy to discern.
