Alexandria Aces Collegiate Baseball Team Issues Urgent Call For Summer Host Families

Alexandria's collegiate summer baseball league is scrambling to find a few more host families for its visiting players this summer.

ALEXANDRIA, VA – Alexandria’s summer collegiate baseball team, the Alexandria Aces, is issuing an urgent call for host families ahead of their first game on June 3.

Players are already beginning to arrive in Alexandria to join the wooden-bat league and will need a stable home base for the summer.

The regular season runs through July 20, with playoffs from July 23 to 31.

In a media release, Aces President Frank Fannon said, “We’re at a critical point. We need these last few spots filled immediately so our players are settled and ready to compete. Hosting is more than just providing a room, it’s a vital way to support these young men and a fantastic way to become a true part of our 18th season.”

According to the team, hosting is designed to be an easy experience. Host families are expected to provide a private bedroom and access to a bathroom and laundry. Players will handle their own transportation and meals.

In turn, hosts get season passes for the entire family for Aces home games and a special acknowledgement during Host Family night.

The Aces are one of eight teams in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, DC, that play in the Cal Ripken Sr. League, a registered non-profit organization. According to the league, it promotes collegiate wooden-bat baseball in the region, as well as amateur and youth baseball and softball generally. It also promotes the development of community-based summer collegiate baseball teams throughout the area; pushes for improved youth sports facilities and opportunities; and aims to foster sportsmanship, teamwork, competition and fair play.

The league was launched in 2005, and so far, hundreds of its players have gone on to be drafted by Major League Baseball teams.

The Aces play throughout the summer at Frank Mann Field in the Lynnhaven neighborhood within Four Mile Run Park.

The team asks anyone interested in hosting to contact Maggie Crane at maggiecrane19@gmail.com.
