Alexandria Beautification Commission Presents 2021 Business Award

The Alexandria Beautification Commission presented one award and four honorable mentions.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The Alexandria Beautification Commission has announced winners of its special 2021 Commercial Award.

The winner was Tequila + Taco and Sweet Fire Donna's, two restaurants from the HomeGrown Restaurant Group. Mayor Justin Wilson and Councilman Canek Aguirre presented the owners with the award on Friday.

Honorable mentions for the Commercial Award were Cheesetique in Del Ray, Fontaine Caffe & Creperie in Old Town, Ramparts Tavern & Grill in North Ridge and Silver Diner in the West End.

According to the commission, the winners show "business resilience while providing a wonderful customer experience by creatively embracing their outdoor environment during unprecedented times."

Nominations were based on community feedback and tours of the city by commission members looking for businesses that represented beautification outdoors during COVID-19.

The annual Alexandria Beautification Awards are held by the commission every fall. Awards are given in six categories: Excellence in Architecture, Excellence in Sustainable Design, Green Practices in Beautification, Community Beautification, Residential Beautification and Commercial Beautification. The commission accepted nominations from the public.
