Alexandria Bicycle Shop Victim of Smash and Grab

A purple women's bicycle was stolen out of a window display sometime between Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A local bicycle shop was the victim of a smash and grab sometime between 2 p.m. Thursday, Christmas Eve and 9 a.m. Friday, Christmas Day, according to a store employee.

A manager discovered a smashed window Friday morning at the Spokes bicycle shop, located at 1545 N. Quaker Lane, at Fairlington Shopping Center.

A window at the shop, located at the corner of N. Quaker Lane and Fern Street, was smashed and an expensive woman’s purple road bike was taken from a display in the window, according to Paul Keitelman, a salesperson at the shop. Plywood is currently covering the broken window, located on the Fern Street side of the store.

Keitelman said the bicycle was a Specialized brand; according to the Specialized Web site, the women’s road bicycles start at $770 and can cost up to $8,000.

On August 25, the glass door of the CVS located in the same shopping center was smashed in; police reported a burglary that date in the 1500 block of N. Quaker Lane.
