Alexandria City High School Evacuation Ends After Fire Alarm

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria City High School was temporarily evacuated on the first day of school Monday.

Executive Principal Alexander Duncan told families that a fire alarm around 9:40 p.m. resulted in an evacuation at the the King Street Campus. The Alexandria Fire Department responded and determined it was safe for students and staff to return to the building around 10:05 a.m.

It was immediately not clear what caused the fire alarm to sound. The normal school day continues after the evacuation.

"We appreciate the quick response of the AFD," Duncan wrote. "The safety of our students and staff is always a priority."

Alexandria City Public Schools has a video series available to inform families about protocols for evacuations, secure the building status and lockdowns.
