Alexandria Dog Park: Lighting, Expansion Proposed
Existing dog park's area would increase by 13,391 square feet for a total dog park area of 27,000 square feet to exercise dogs.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- The City parks department is proposing to add lights to and expand a popular dog park in Alexandria.
The City of Alexandria, Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities, is requesting approval to add lighting in an expanded dog park at Ben Brenman Park, located at 4800 Brenman Park Dr. (see map below).
City staff has recommended approval of the proposal, which goes before the Planning Commission April 5.

Here's more about the lights proposal:
- Seven park lights with a maximum height of 15 feet would be sited around the perimeter of the expanded dog park, according to the proposal submitted to the planning commission.
- The LED lights would be user-activated and timed for one-hour intervals
- The lights would be available for use between the hours of 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.
The existing dog park’s area would increase by 13,391 square feet for a total dog park area of 27,000 square feet to provide more dog owners with space to exercise their dogs. The dog park would expand westward in an existing area of lawn.

This West End Alexandria park located on the east end of the former U.S. Army base at Cameron Station was named in honor of the late Colonel Ben Brenman, (US Army-retired) on June 23, 1998, by the Alexandria City Council. Brenman was an Alexandria community activist for over 30 years.
