Alexandria Driver Killed In Fairfax County Crash

Virginia State Police have released the name of an Alexandria driver who died when his vehicle veered off a ramp on I-66 in Fairfax County.

CENTERVILLE, VA — Authorities are investigating what caused a fatal crash about 5:35 a.m. Wednesday near Centerville, killing an Alexandria man.

Virginia State Police said the single-vehicle crash occurred on Interstate 66 westbound on the ramp to Route 28 in Fairfax County. The driver, Nurelen Befekadu, 35, was taken to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The preliminary investigation indicates Befekadu's vehicle was traveling too fast for the ramp and he lost control, striking the sound wall, state police said in a news release.
