Alexandria Fireworks Rescheduled For Sunday: Where To Watch

The Alexandria and USA Birthday Celebration will feature fireworks and other festivities Sunday on the waterfront.

UPDATE: The event was rescheduled for Sunday due to inclement weather.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — While other Fourth of July celebrations wrapped up last weekend around the DC region, Alexandria's fireworks are rescheduled for Sunday. Alexandria will celebrate its 273rd birthday and the USA's 246th birthday at Oronoco Bay Park.

The event will be held from 6 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. with fireworks beginning at 9:30 p.m. There will be a performance by the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra, other live music, cupcakes and food truck vendors before the fireworks display. Food truck vendors along Pendleton Street will include Borinquen Lunch Box, Hard Times Café, Big Cheese Gourmet, A&B Soft Serve Ice Cream and Snowie of Virginia.

The schedule is as follows:

  • 6 p.m. - Performance by DJ One Luv
  • 7:30 p.m. - Town crier announces Mayor Justin Wilson; poetry reading by Alexandria Poet Laureate Zeina Azzam; acknowledgments
  • 8 p.m. - Distribution of birthday cupcakes by members of City Council
  • 8:30 p.m. - Performance by the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra
  • 9:30 p.m. - Grand finale fireworks display

Lawn seating will be available at Oronoco Bay Park for fireworks viewing. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets. Grilling, smoking, tents, large or staked umbrellas and pets are not permitted. If groups or families get separated, an area for lost persons will be at the city stage.

Visitors are encouraged to bike, walk, take public transportation or park in the city's parking garages and lots. Handicapped-accessible parking will be provided in the 500 block of N. Fairfax Street.

Aside from Oronoco Bay Park, fireworks viewing locations will include Center Canal Plaza; Rivergate Park, 2 Montgomery St.; Founders Park, 351 North Union St.; Waterfront Park, 1A Prince St.; Windmill Hill Park, 501 South Union St.; Fords Landing boardwalk, 99 Franklin St.; Jones Point Park, Jones Point Drive and George Washington Masonic Temple, 101 Callahan Drive.
