ALEXANDRIA, VA—After violent clashes broke out between white nationalists and counter-protesters in Charlottesville over the weekend, Alexandria residents rallied to unify the community during a solidarity event. The Picnic for Peace was held at Waterfront Park (1A Prince Street) Wednesday, Aug. 16 at 7 p.m.
On Sunday, Alexandria was the site of a protest against the violence and hate surrounding the clashes in Charlottesville. It led up to a vigil for Heather Heyer, 32, who was killed when a driver plowed into a crowd of counter-protesters.
