Alexandria Makes Top 25 Most Diverse Cities List

Alexandria ranked above Washington, DC in Wallethub's Most Diversity Cities in America study.

ALEXANDRIA, VA-- Alexandria is the 21st most diverse city in the U.S., according to a new report by the personal financial website WalletHub.

WalletHub's analysts compared more than 500 cities across the U.S. to determine the most diverse cities. They examined socioeconomic diversity, cultural diversity, economic diversity, household diversity and religious diversity.

The researchers categorized each city according to the following population-size guidelines: large cities have more than 300,000 residents; midsize cities have 100,000 to 300,000 residents and small cities have fewer than 100,000 residents.

According to the rankings, Alexandria is the most diverse city in Virginia. Among the study's factors, Alexandria ranked third for socioeconomic diversity, 37th for cultural diversity. The rankings were lower for other subcategories: and religious diversity (157), economic diversity (305) and household diversity (439).

Nearby, Washington, DC ranked 30th, but a few suburbs in Maryland made the top 10.

  5. Silver Spring, Md.
  6. Aurora, Ill.

  9. Germantown, Md.
  10. Long Beach, Calif.
