Alexandria Man Faces New Murder Charge For Woodbridge Shooting

The man was originally charged with aggravated malicious wounding for the shooting.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—A man from Alexandria is facing a new murder charge for a fatal shooting on March 3 in Woodbridge.

A grand jury in Prince William County returned an indictment charging Markus Sean-Thurman Dean, 23, with murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. He was originally charged with aggravated malicious wounding before the victim died.

The shooting happened around 12:39 a.m. on March 3 at Rippon Boulevard and Jefferson Davis Highway, according to Prince William County Police. Investigations found the victim and suspect had an argument in a nearby parking lot. When the argument escalated, the victim was shot. The suspect fled on foot while uninvolved people provided aid to the victim.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the upper body and received CPR from responding officers. The victim was taken to the hospital, where died of his injuries that morning. The victim was identified as Daniel James Gilliam, 25, of Woodbridge.

Police received a suspect description and arrested Dean. He is being held at the Prince William-Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center. A court hearing is set for May 24.
