Alexandria Nonprofits Receive $130K In Grants
The Rotary Club of Alexandria and the Alexandria Day Nursery awarded grants at the Contributions Day event.
From the Rotary Club of Alexandria: At its annual Contributions Day Luncheon on Tuesday, June 11, 2019, the Rotary Club of Alexandria presented grants totaling $70,000 to 37 nonprofit organizations that advance literacy for children and adults and/or improve the lives of children, youth, seniors, and others with special needs in the Alexandria community. The luncheon was held at Belle Haven Country Club.
The funds awarded are raised at the Rotary Club of Alexandria’s signature event, its annual Taste For Giving held at the US Patent and Trademark Office Building last Fall, which featured the best of Alexandria’s restaurants, wine tasting from local vineyards and live music, with raffles and silent and live auctions. An important goal of the grant program is forming mutually beneficial relationships, so many of the awardee organizations volunteer at Taste for Giving, contributing to the event’s success.
Additionally, the Alexandria Day Nursery, an affiliated fund of the Alexandria Rotary which supports a myriad of programs that serve our city’s youngest citizens, awarded grants at the luncheon in the amount of $61,550.00 to 15 worthy child-serving organizations.

Rotary President Paul Anderson, “We’re really excited to be able to distribute over $130,000 in grant funds to local charities and preschools in Alexandria. What makes it even more special is that volunteers at our fundraising event come from our beneficiary organizations. Our Rotary members are happy to work together with the community to help our Alexandria neighbors in need.”
This year’s program featured keynote remarks by Charlotte Hall, the 2019 Chair of the Alexandria
Chamber of Commerce. In addition to local officials and dignitaries, Rotary District 7610’s District
Governor, Glenn Yarborough attended to congratulate the awardees.
