Alexandria Police Phone Scam Warning Issued

The caller may attempt to get your bank or credit card account details, according to Alexandria Police.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria Police are warning residents of a phone scam where the caller falsely claims to be from the police department.

Police were notified of the scam from victims. The caller asks for a charitable donation to the police department and attempts to get personal information, credit card information or bank account details. The caller may also request funds sent through digital transfers and payment apps.

The Alexandria Police Foundation is the nonprofit supporting the police department's community efforts and K-9 officers. The foundation and police department will not solicit donations by phone, said the Alexandria Police Foundation in a Facebook post. Police advise anyone who receives the scam call to immediately hang up and not provide information or answer questions.
