Alexandria Ranks 20th For Population Growth In Virginia

New population estimates from the Census Bureau show how the population has changed from 2017 to 2018.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—The southern and western United States are home to the counties that experienced the largest increases in population, according to new 2018 estimates released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau. While Alexandria did not match these counties in growth, the population did change between 2017 and 2018.

According to the Census estimates, in the City of Alexandria, the population increased by 0.5 percent between July 1, 2017, and July 1, 2018. The estimated population change was an increase of 876 people to 160,530. Alexandria ranked 20th for numeric growth in Virginia. The city had the 12th highest population for 2018 in Virginia, according to census estimates.

The top county for population growth in Virginia was Loudoun County, followed by Chesterfield County, Prince William County, Fairfax County and Stafford County. Fairfax County maintained the highest population in Virginia with an estimated 1,150,795 people in 2018.

On the metro level, the Washington-Arlington-Alexandria region ranked 10th for population growth. The Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington area had the largest numeric growth in population, followed by the Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale area.
