ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Alexandria ranks 32nd on Livability.com's list of the Top 100 Best Places to Live.
The study says Alexandria's "historic character and culture" is perfect for families. The city's intimate feel offers a contrast to the bustling DC six miles away.
The study noted Alexandria's restaurants, shops and entertainment options, its historical Old Town district and other distinct neighborhoods. It also recognized Alexandria's 70 parks and good health care options. According to the study, Alexandria has fine public schools and a number of higher education options.

The city does well with walkability, and it offers public transportation and water taxi options. The study says Alexandria is one of the most dog-friendly cities in the nation.
