Alexandria Resident Charged with Murder: Police

Timothy Lamont Washington, 20, is the third person charged in the murder of a 64-year old man last year.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Fairfax County Homicide detectives have identified a City of Alexandria resident as a suspect in a murder.

Police identified Timothy Lamont Washington, 20, of the 300 block of Hopkins Court in Alexandria, as the third suspect in the March 26, 2015 homicide of Santos Rafael Zelaya, 64, at his home in the 6100 block of North King’s Highway. A murder warrant was obtained for Washington on Feb. 29, according to Fairfax County Police.

Members of the Alexandria City Police Department located Washington at his residence this past weekend on Hopkins Court in Alexandria, in the late evening hours of Saturday, March 11, Fairfax County Police said. Washington was arrested and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where the murder warrant was served.

Washington is the third person charged in the murder of Zelaya, who died of multiple gunshot wounds after he was flown to a local hospital, police said.

Last May, Gregory Brown, 23, of Washington, D.C. and Niziah Williams, of Clinton, Md., were charged in the murder. Police had said they were looking for four suspects in all.
