Alexandria Runner Among Top Quantico 12K Finishers
A runner from Alexandria placed second among female runners in Saturday's Quantico 12K, part of the Marine Corps Marathon event series.
QUANTICO, VA — An Alexandria runner was one of the top female finishers in the Quantico 12K Saturday.
Over 500 runners participated in the 7.46-mile run through Marine Corps Base Quantico, and other 126 participated virtually between Aug. 6 and 21. The Quantico 12K is part of the event series hosted by the Marine Corps Marathon Organization. Awards were given to the top male and female finishers and top male and female finishers in each 10-year age group.
Alexandria runner Gwen Oster, 31, placed second among female participants with a time of 54:39, first in her division and 19th overall. The top female finisher was Annie Pentaleri, 23, of Jacksonville, Florida with a time of 53:49 and 17th place overall.

The first place finisher in the Quantico 12K was Jonathan Ladson, 31, of Dale City with a time of 42:54. Ladson has been in the top two of every Marine Corps Marathon Organization he participated in during 2022 — second at the Marine Corps 17.75K in March, winner of the Devil Dog Double in May and winner of the Belleau Wood 8K in June. He hopes to continue the winning streak at the Marine Corps Marathon in October.
The Marine Corps Marathon Organization's main event is the Marine Corps Marathon, one of the largest marathons in the world. The next Marine Corps Marathon is Oct. 30 in Arlington, following the Marine Corps Historic Half on May 22. Other upcoming events include the MCM Kids Run on Oct. 29 and Turkey Trot 10K and Mile on Nov. 19.
