Alexandria Sets 2017 Leaf Collection Schedule
Alexandria residents can follow a number of guidelines to prepare for the leaf collection dates.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Alexandria is on its way to all of the trees changing colors, and that means leaf collection will begin soon. As some trees are still more green than others, there may be a quicker turnaround for some city residents. The City of Alexandria will begin collecting leaves on Monday, Oct. 30 and continue through December.
Each of the five zones in Alexandria will have a different start date, with each having three collections. This will happen on normal trash and recycling collection days. Residents covered under city trash and recycling collections should do one of three things with their leaves:
- Rake leaves to the curb for vacuum collection
- Place leaves in paper leaf bags for collection (Leaves in plastic bags are considered refuse, and will be thrown away as trash)
- Compost leaves and yard waste at home
Paper bags are available for free at a number of city facilities during the collection season:
