Alexandria Zip Code Among Priciest For Renters In Virginia

RENTCafé looked at the zip codes with the highest average rent by state and region.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria, one of the most competitive real estate markets, is also one of the state's priciest for renting an apartment. RENTCafé released an analysis of the most expensive zip codes in the U.S., broken down by state and region as well.

The study looked at commercial real estate data from Yardi Matrix in 130 major U.S. markets. Zip codes are ranked by average rent, and the report shows the year-over-year changes in average rent.

Alexandria's zip code 22314 is the eighth most expensive in Virginia. The average $2,145 rent has a 3.8 percent year-over-year change. Arlington's 22209 (Rosslyn) holds the top spot in Virginia with an average $2,718 rent.

The three most expensive zip codes in the Mid-Atlantic fall within Washington, DC. The top three are 20037 (West End) with $2,864 rent, 20003 (Capitol Hill) with $2,799 rent and 20001 (various NW neighborhoods) with $2,741.

No zip codes in the DC region crack the top 50 nationwide. All of the top 50 came from New York City, California and Boston.

The study identified zip codes with rent under $600. The place with the lowest average rent is Wichita's 67213 for $423.
