Alexandrian Nonprofit’s Massive Impact Calls for Celebration

On November 5, RunningBrooke will host a Massive Community Celebration to honor those who have helped get kids moving in Alexandria.

Since it was founded 7 years ago, local nonprofit RunningBrooke has made some incredible strides to improve the community for the most under-served youth in Alexandria.

Led by its Founder and CEO, Brooke Sydnor Curran, RunningBrooke has mobilized thousands of Alexandria residents to get behind their mission to get kids moving to spark and enhance their academic performance. Curran has an unique story as ex-chain smoker, currently in her 50's and about to run her 100 marathon.

“When kids move more, not only do they fight obesity, feel more confident and have better focus, they also do better in school. It’s been amazing to see the Alexandria community come together to help these kids get started on a path to success early in life.” said Curran.

Since its inception, RunningBrooke has raised $1 million dollars, built 2 playgrounds in the Taney Ave and Hume Springs neighborhoods, and worked with more than 30 charity partners to provide services to more than 5,000 kids in the City of Alexandria. During this time, Brooke has run one marathon every month to raise awareness and raise funds for RunningBrooke. She has run at least one marathon in every state, one on every continent, and on October 30, 2016 she will run her 100th marathon at the Marine Corps Marathon. That’s 4,400,000 marathon steps!

All of these consecutively occurring milestones call for a celebration, and on November 5th RunningBrooke will host a Massive Community Celebration to honor the many people in and around Alexandria who have made this work possible. Great food and drinks from local vendors, live music from Noise in the Basement and The Derds, and a raffle drawing for a trip for up to 4 to Hawaii are all part of the festivities. Longtime RunningBrooke supporter, The Liz Luke Team at Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc. is the Champion Sponsor of this Massive Community Celebration.

“Our hope is that everyone who has pitched in to help move this effort forward in any way will be able to come and celebrate our collective success. “It’s going to be a great time and we are pumped to see so many friends and supporters kick back and enjoy a great evening together.” said Curran.
