Alexandria's Nonprofit Campagna Center To Reopen Renovated Building
The Campagna Center is hosting a ribbon cutting and open house for its renovated building to expand programs.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria's nonprofit Campagna Center, which provides programs for children and adults, is reopening its building after a renovation project. A ribbon cutting is planned to mark the reopening.
The Campagna Center's renovation was done with help from a $6.7 million capital fundraising campaign to renovate its aging building at 418 S. Washington St. The nonprofit says the renovations will support expanding programs to serve more children and families in Alexandria. Some of the Campagna Center's core programs are early childhood education and Early Head Start, New Neighbors English Language Learner program, and Campagna Kids before and after-school programs. In 2023, the nonprofit returned to serving more than 2,000 children, teens and adults in Alexandria and had record numbers of K-12 children.
"Just shy of our 80th year in operation, we’re emerging from the pandemic in an even stronger place than where we found ourselves in 2020," said Tammy Mann, president & CEO of the Campagna Center. "And when it comes to providing preschool education, after-school programs, tutoring and mentoring, college and career planning for youth, and adult English language learning classes, we’re excited for what comes next."

The COVID-19 pandemic delayed the Campagna Center's fundraising effort until 2021. Contributions from 250 donors, including a $4 million gift from philanthropist and Amazon co-founder Mackenzie Scott, helped the Campagna Center reach its capital fundraising goal.
Upgrades to the building include classrooms set up for in-person and remote instruction, a children’s library, a terrace for events, teleconference-enabled meeting rooms, and flexible administrative space. The nonprofit said upgrades were made with respect for the building's historic character.
