Alexandria's Port City Brewing Co. Brings Home Gold At World Beer Cup

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria's own Port City Brewing Co. struck gold at the latest World Beer Cup awards presented Wednesday.

The brewery, which is located at 3950 Wheeler Avenue in Alexandria, won gold in the Belgian-Style Witbier category for its Optimal Wit. The World Beer Cup, hosted by the Brewers Association, is the world's the largest international beer competition. The competition drew 2,060 breweries in 50 countries.

"Congrats to our entire team on Optimal Wit's Gold Medal at the World Beer Cup," the brewery shared on social media. "It's now the best Belgian-style white ale in the world!"

Awards were given in 110 categories, with winners representing 172 different beer styles. Hundreds of judges chose winners from 9,300 entries. The awards were presented during the last day of the Craft Brewers Conference & BrewExpo America in Las Vegas.

"Each award represents not only exceptional quality but also innovation and creativity, driving the global craft beer industry forward," said Chris Williams, the competition director at World Beer Cup. "This year’s winners exemplify the spirit of craftsmanship and ingenuity and showcase the diverse flavors and techniques that make beer an art form."
