ALEXANDRIA, VA — Employees or businesses looking for a smaller commitment to office space may turn to co-working spaces as an alternative. That shared office concept is working for ALX Community, which is planning to open its fourth location on Aug. 1.

The new ALX Community shared office space will open at 101 N. Union Street. The concept comes from partners Scott Shaw, Kelly Grant, and Amanda Kate Galbraith.

The new 17,000-square-foot space at 101 N. Union Street adds another option with Potomac River views. The two-floor location has 12 fully furnished office suites with floor-to-ceiling windows, three meeting rooms, kitchens on both floors and two lounge spaces. According to ALX Community, the new location is best suited for small and medium-sized businesses with five to 30 employees.

"Post-pandemic, many organizations have restructured to hybrid teams after realizing they don’t need the office sq. footage that they used to – especially when not everyone is in the office every day," said Grant in a statement. "We realized there was a gap in the workspace market for mid-size teams of 5-30 people that were looking to rightsize from their large office spaces into something more flexible and cost effective."

The first ALX Community space opened in April 2018 at Founders Hall building at 106 North Lee Street and now focuses on private office space. Other ALX Community locations at the Atrium (277 S. Washington Street) and the Waterfront (201 N. Union Street) include options from day passes to shared space and dedicated space memberships.
