ALEXANDRIA, VA — With Friday, May 29 looking like the start of phase one reopening for Alexandria and Northern Virginia, customers may be looking for assurances about businesses' safety practices during the pandemic. The new ALX Promise program is a voluntary training program preparing businesses for the governor's reopening guidelines and encouraging safety standards beyond requirements.

Under the program, businesses are trained by an environmental health specialist on state reopening requirements. Businesses train their own employees on safety measures for reopening. Businesses will submit a completed checklist, training record and pledge commitment, which includes acknowledging future public health guidance. An ALX Promise Shield will be awarded to participating businesses to display online and in person.

The ALX Promise program is held by the Alexandria Health Department in partnership with Visit Alexandria and local restaurant and business associations.
