Multiple chances of rain and a few thunderstorms could dampen plans in Northern Virginia this Mother's Day weekend, according to the latest forecasts.
After two days of showers, conditions are expected to dry out on Friday, according to the National Weather Service. Increasing clouds are possible later in the day with high temperatures reaching the lower 70s in the Baltimore region.
After Friday, several chances for showers and even a few thunderstorms are possible every day through early next week, according to forecasts.
On Saturday, showers are likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 2 p.m. Expect mostly cloudy skies with a high temperature in the mid- to upper 70s.
By Sunday, a shift in temperature will accompany mostly sunny skies during the day with additional chances for showers after 8 p.m. Highs could reach the lower 80s while rain is expected to continue into the evening hours.
A cold front will move into Virginia behind Sunday's warmer weather, causing temperatures to once again drop and highs to settle in the mid-60s.
Rain chances may also linger into Monday morning and will end as the cold front swings offshore. With high pressure moving in from the west Monday night into Tuesday, overnight low temperatures could feasibly drop into the mid-30s in some parts of the state, according to the National Weather Service.
