Lorton Man Charged With Involuntary Manslaughter Over Fatal Pedestrian Crash In Alexandria

A Lorton man is facing multiple charges in connection with a fatal pedestrian accident in April.

ALEXANDRIA, VA – A 46-year-old Lorton man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and failure to yield to a pedestrian, causing death, in connection with a fatal pedestrian crash in Alexandria in April.

On April 20, 62-year-old Norma Floyd-Sales of Alexandria was struck by a black Chevrolet Suburban in the intersection of North St. Asaph Street and Montgomery Street at about 5:30 p.m., Alexandria police say. Floyd-Sales was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the suburban stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

On July 15, Tekaligne Shirko, 46, of Lorton, was charged with involuntary manslaughter and failure to yield to a pedestrian, causing death.

According to the Alexandria Police Department, Shirko turned himself in on Friday and is being processed through the city’s adult detention center. His first hearing is set for July.

A man with the same name and birthday was fined for failure to obey a sign while driving in Fairfax County in 2024.

Alexandria experienced a spike in pedestrian accidents during the spring. Alexandria police told Patch that serious accidents can often occur when drivers are making left-hand turns.
