Another Round Of Snow To Target NoVA: See Timing, Forecast

An arctic blast of air is expected to fuel another winter storm that will likely impact Northern Virginia. See the latest forecast.

A blast of arctic air is expected to fuel another winter storm that will likely bring another round of snow and rain to Northern Virginia early next week, according to the latest forecasts.

Ahead of this new threat, the D.C. region could see some rain and possibly a little light snow later Thursday morning into the early evening hours, the National Weather Service said in a forecast discussion.

Rain is expected to move into Northern Virginia and the I-95 metros between noon and 3 p.m., but NWS forecasters said a few wet snowflakes mixed in with rain shouldn't be ruled out around the
northern and western D.C. suburbs.

Looking ahead, the weekend should be mostly clear and sunny. Warmer temperatures are also likely, with highs near 60 degrees expected on Saturday.

Meanwhile, forecasters are keeping an eye on Monday, when a strong cold front combined with multiple waves of low pressure could bring widespread rain and winter weather to Northern Virginia.

Depending on the amount of low pressure in the atmosphere, National Weather Service forecasters said a widespread snow/wintry mix event cannot be ruled out across the entirety of the region. The type of precipitation that Northern Virginia will see depends largely on temperatures and storm track.

While the storm's progression is still up in the air, The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang said it could start Monday and last throughout the day, or start later and last into the night.

"At least light accumulation is possible with highs in the 30s," the Capital Weather Gang wrote.

Currently, the National Weather Service is predicting a 60 percent chance of snow during the day on Monday, and chances linger into the overnight hours. On Tuesday, there's a 50 percent chance of a mix of rain and snow.

"(We) will continue to monitor how this all evolves... and what the exact impacts will be to the region," the National Weather Service wrote.
