Awesome Women Entrepreneurs Launches Alexandria Chapter
The professional networking group for women business owners will have a launch party on May 23.
From AWE: Awesome Women Entrepreneurs (AWE), a professional networking group for women business owners, today announced the launch of its newest chapter in Old Town-Alexandria. Headed by DeDee Cai, founder of Fit to Profit, and Lydia Michalitsianos, founder of Build Yourself Inside, AWE OTA’s introductory meeting will be held at Industrious Alexandria (2461 Eisenhower Avenue, 2nd Floor) on Thursday, May 23 from 6:00 – 8;00 pm. Register here. Snacks and refreshments will be served.
Open to women running their own businesses, “the purpose of this initial meeting is to introduce AWE to potential members of the community and share the benefits of belonging to – and participating in – an established hyper-local group for women who want to connect, collaborate and just be awesome,” said DeDee Cai.
“We want AWE to be that place where female founders relax and support one another, growing their businesses together for long-term success,” added Michalitsianos.

Co-founded by Arlington entrepreneurs Karen Bate and Evelyn Powers, AWE now has six chapters throughout the DC region, with more planned throughout the U.S. in 2019.
“We’re meeting a demand,” says Bate. “Running a business is hard, but women don’t have to go it alone. Through AWE, women network with local like-minded business owners; refer, hire and collaborate with one another; and benefit from engaging and relevant speakers. Equally important, getting together to share the juggle and the struggle with women on the same path is fun!”

Bate and Powers co-host a weekly radio show on WERA 96.7 FM with a companion podcast on ITunes and other platforms, interviewing successful women business owners and community leaders. The two appeared on Great Day Washington to talk about AWE’s burgeoning growth.
“AWE is open to women at all stages of entrepreneurship, from side hustle to seasoned pro,” said Powers. “We limit the number of members within professional categories for the best networking potential and we have a strong focus on diversity. But most of all, we just want to have some laughs and be awesome together.”
AWE benefits include:
- Monthly meetings with excellent speakers and networking
- Weekly interviews with women business owners on AWE Radio/Podcast
- 6-month Mastermind Programs
- Active private Facebook group page
- Members-only list of all AWE members
- Mentor and mentee opportunities
