'Battle of the Local Stars' Set to Take Center Stage
Annual competition featuring amateur teen performers is part of the First Night Alexandria festivities in Alexandria.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Local bands are preparing for their big night on New Year’s Eve in Alexandria, when they’ll compete in a “Battle of the Local Stars.”

The performances are part of First Night Alexandria, a huge New Year’s Eve celebration in Alexandria.
On Wednesday, they’ll get an assist from award-winning singer/songwriter Keira Moran, set to hold a mentoring session for the four finalists in the competition Wednesday afternoon. Each of the competitors will be covering one of Moran’s songs as part of the competition.

The competition for amateur teenage performers will take place on Thursday night, New Year’s Eve, at 7:30 p.m. at The Durant Center on 1605 Cameron St. in Alexandria. Each competitor will receive a cash prize and the winner of the competition receives a contract for a paid performance at First Night Alexandria next year.
After the 7:30 p.m. competition on New Year’s Eve, Keira will play a one-hour set starting at 9:30 p.m. with an all-star band and special guest appearances.
