Big Shopping Event, More Alexandria Events On Super Bowl Weekend

Looking for things to do outside of watching the Super Bowl? Party 1760s style, attend an adorable Puppy Bowl event and more.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Maybe watching the Super Bowl isn't your thing, or you want something to do before the big game starts. Either way, you'll be looking for events to pass the time.

Even though the Super Bowl will dominate Sunday, there's still a variety of events to look forward to around Alexandria this weekend.

Here are five events to check out in the area:

1. Super Bowl of Shopping Event - Alexandria Warehouse Sale

Feb. 3, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., The Westin Alexandria, 400 Courthouse Square, Alexandria

For shoppers, this annual designer warehouse sale is just as big as the football game. Check out dozens of boutiques all in one place and enjoy activities like a hard seltzer tasting bar, free Pilates and yoga classes, hands-on home decor classes, prizes valued up to $1,000 and more.

2. Chinese New Year Celebration

Feb. 2, 6 p.m.-10 p.m., Durant Arts Center, 1605 Cameron Street

Come get into the spirit of the Chinese New Year by celebrating the year of the Dog with the Fairfax Chinese Dance Troupe at First Friday: Chinese New Year Celebration. The evening will include the Fairfax Chinese Dance Troupe dancing several traditional Chinese Folk Dances accompanied by Alice Guzheng Ensemble, Mr. Zhang on a traditional instrument called hulusi, and a vocalist Mr. Lin. A Chinese Kungfu, Martial Arts demonstration and the City’s Mobile Art Lab leading interactive art activity will round off the evening’s festivities.

3. Happy Birthday John Carlyle!: A 1760s Celebration

Feb. 3, noon-4 p.m. Carlyle House Historic Park, 121 N Fairfax Street, Alexandria

Join us Feb. 3 from 12 p.m.-4 p.m. as we wish a very happy birthday to Alexandria town founder, Col. John Carlyle. Festivities will include 18th-century dancing, live music, and a birthday treat! Admission is free, but donations are welcome.

4. Puppy Bowl Viewing Party

Feb. 4, 3 p.m.-6 p.m., Wag & Brew, 614 S Pickett Street, Alexandria

Join Operation Paws for Homes to watch local rescue dogs participate in the doggone best sporting event of the year and see Alexandria's new Wag & Brew pet resort. Puppy Bowl XIV is set for 3 p.m. Sunday on Animal Planet. The event is free, but attendees can purchase a "Pup Cup" with a complementary beer for $10. Leashed dogs are welcome.

5. Last Days of Alexandria Restaurant Week

Through Feb. 4, locations around Alexandria

Over 60 restaurants from Old Town to Del Ray and beyond are offering specials through Sunday. The semiannual event features special menus for a $35 three-course dinner or dinner for two, as well as $10, $15 or $20 lunch specials at select restaurants.

6. Walk with Washington Tours

Sundays in February, 2 p.m. Alexandria Visitor Center, 221 King Street

Walk in George Washington’s footsteps through his hometown, historic Alexandria. View some of the sites connected to the General, like where he filled his prescriptions or slept overnight. Tours are free.
