Black Friday 2022: What To Expect At Alexandria's Small Businesses

Black Friday on Nov. 25 highlights Alexandria's independently-owned stores as places to buy various holiday gifts.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — After Thanksgiving, holiday shopping season commences with Black Friday sales at stores around the U.S.

In Alexandria, Black Friday takes on the name Plaid Friday: Alexandria’s Small Business Black Friday. Over 50 independently-owned stores in Old Town and beyond will offer early bird discounts, free gifts with purchases and more to encourage residents to shop small for Black Friday. Store hours vary by location between 6 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. Stores like Bellacara, Bloomers, Penny Post, Red Barn Mercantile and The Shoe Hive will be open to greet shoppers early at 6 a.m.

Along with individual business promotions, shoppers can enjoy holiday pop-ups from the Old Town Business Association. There will be outdoor vendors in the unit block of King Street and indoor vendors at 110 S. Union Street from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday as well as Small Business Saturday. At the corner of Fayette and King Streets, the George Mason University Combo will entertain with live music from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Chris Barrick Trio will perform from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the corner of Union and King Streets.
