Black Panther 2 Early Screening Event Planned In Alexandria

Councilember John Taylor Chapman's Manumission Tour Company will cohost a "Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever" screening before it's released.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — An early preview of "Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever" will be held in Alexandria one day before the movie release date. The highly-anticipated follow-up to the 2018 "Black Panther" will be in theaters on Nov. 11.

Alexandria's private early screening event will be held on Nov. 10 from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at AMC Hoffman Center 22, 206 Hoffman Street, Alexandria, VA. It will be hosted by Alexandria Councilmember John Taylor Chapman's Manumission Tour Company and media company Griffin Vision Media. Along with the movie screening, the event will have red carpet photo ops, raffle prize giveaways, and screening room options. Attendees are encouraged to cosplay for a chance to win the "Best Dressed Wakandan" contest.

Chapman and partners had hosted a similar event at the former Regal Potomac Yard movie theater that in 2018. That event sold out, drawing over 700 people and resulting in Chapman planning future viewing parties for "Green Book" and "Harriet." Chapman, a native Alexandrian, has also promoted African American culture through his tours at Manumission Tour Company.

According to a news release, the special movie preview of the Black Panther sequel seeks to celebrate Black excellence. The event will also spotlight Colorectal Cancer Alliance, a DC-based nonprofit raising awareness and funds for colorectal cancer. Black Panther's lead actor Chadwick Boseman had died from colorectal cancer at age 44 in 2020. In addition, the Alexandria event partner Elijah Walter Griffin, Sr. of Griffin Vision Media lost his mother to colorectal cancer at age 62.

According to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, colorectal cancers is higher among Black Americans, who also experience a higher mortality rate from the cancer. Colorectal Cancer Alliance representatives will be present at the movie screening to provide information and collect donations.
