Blizzard 2016: Open/Closed in Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, VA - The City of Alexandria saw its first flurries Friday afternoon around lunchtime and streets were filled with drivers picking up last-minute items at grocery stores and drug stores before an expected big winter snowstorm hits the area Friday through Sunday morning.

Patch will keep a running list here of what’s open and what’s closed in Alexandria and the region throughout the weekend so be sure to check back.

• City government facilities closed Friday at noon.
• City schools are closed Friday.
• Mount Vernon: Closed Friday as of 1 p.m.; closed Saturday
• DASH Bus Service Schedule This Weekend (also see this addendum from DASH about AT-3, AT-4 service Friday)
• Metrobus service ends Friday at 5 p.m.
• Metro service ends Friday at 11 p.m. and will be closed through the weekend.
• Springfield Town Center will close Friday at 3 p.m.
• Pentagon City shopping center will close Friday at 3 p.m.
• Alexandria Snow Emergency Routes--no parking in designated spots, started Friday at noon: There are 8 routes throughout the City designated as Snow Emergency Routes. If your vehicle is parked on a snow emergency route it should be moved immediately. Vehicles remaining after 12 noon January 22 may be towed at the owner’s expense. Snow emergency routes are posted with red and white signs, and listed in the City Code.
