Body Found In Potomac River In Alexandria, Death Under Investigation

Alexandria Police say a woman's body was found in the Potomac River by a resident on Saturday.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A woman's body was found in the Potomac River Saturday, prompting an investigation into the death, according to Alexandria Police.

A resident had found the body in the unit block of Duke Street around 10 a.m. Saturday and notified police. Responding officers found a deceased woman floating near the pier at Point Lumley Park.

The woman's body was removed from the Potomac River and is being examined by the medical examiner. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death. Foul play is not suspected by police.

Police have not yet released the identity of the woman due to next-of-kin notification.
