Connect with other makers at this year’s Make in Public Day in Old Town, Alexandria! We have a full schedule of events and treats to celebrate all the Makers in our lives.

Make in Public Day is a vibrant, community-wide celebration of creativity and craft. Originally launched 16 years ago as a small local meet-up for World Wide Knit in Public Day, the event has grown into a beloved tradition that drew over 350 participants last year.

Makers of all kinds—knitters, crocheters, painters, potters, and more—are invited to bring their works-in-progress and create together in public.

Tips for this event:

We have some seating and will also have tents to provide shade cover. However, we always recommend that you bring your own seating – lawn chair, cushion, blanket, etc. Sunscreen and water are always a good idea. We have amazing neighbors this year open to provide food and beverages! Call Your Mother, Goodies, Midnight Treats, La Fromagerie and Eddie’s Little Shop & Deli.

Gift with purchase! We will have a special custom Shelli. Can sticker for everyone who makes a purchase of $30 or more during the event.

A colorful sticker featuring a cartoon sheep with one eye, playing with a ball of yarn, and text reading 'MAKE IN PUBLIC DAY 2026.'

Win a prize with our custom Plinko game! We’ll have prizes like 200 rewards points, $10 0ff, $50 off or Shelli Can sticker of your choice! (A great time to plan out those summer knits!)

We’ll have some very special guests this year: alpacas! Our friends at Alpaca Lane will bring their alpaca experience to Prince Street, so everyone can have their own fuzzy encounter.

A fluffy white alpaca is munching on hay, with a blurred background of other animals.

Fibre alumni and staff instructors Jillian and Kerry will be running Fit Check workshops so you can learn how to understand sizing and take the best measurements for a garment that works. They’ll also help with taking your measurements, and you will leave with a schematic of your own measurements to assist in future garment-making.

Be sure to sign up for a time slot, there are limited spaces at each time.
