Capital Beltway Crash Kills Driver Near Eisenhower Avenue Exit

A rear-end crash into a tractor-trailer killed the driver of the rear vehicle on the Capital Beltway, according to state police.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — A two-vehicle crash killed one driver Tuesday on the Capital Beltway in the Alexandria area, according to Virginia State Police.

Around 4:01 p.m. Tuesday, state police responded to the crash near Beltway Outer Loop mile marker 174.8, which is the area near the Eisenhower Avenue connector exit. Police determined a tractor-trailer heading east on Interstate 495 was traveling slow due to traffic when a pickup truck heading east rear-ended the tractor-trailer. The crash impact caused the tractor-trailer to run off the road and strike a jersey wall, according to state police.

The pickup truck driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene. The driver was identified as Paul M. Chauvin, 60, of Honey Brook, Pennsylvania. The tractor-trailer driver was not injured.

There were no charges announced in the case. State police continue to investigate the crash.
