ALEXANDRIA, VA — Carpenter's Shelter, a nonprofit operating a homeless shelter in Alexandria and helping the homeless with the transition to housing, will operate a second location.

The nonprofit shelter announced it signed a contract with the City of Alexandria to operate the existing 64-bed Alexandria Community Shelter at 2355-A Mill Road, Alexandria, VA. That means Carpenter's Shelter will become the only emergency shelter provider in the city. It will take over the emergency shelter from Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas.

"We are honored to assume operations of the Alexandria Community Shelter," said Carpenter’s
Shelter Executive Director Shannon Steene in a statement. "It deepens our working relationship with the City of Alexandria and brings more opportunities for us to engage the community in solutions to homelessness."
