Church in Old Town Proposes Opening Preschool

A local church is hoping to create a preschool/daycare at its Old Town Alexandria location for up to 50 children ages 2-5 each weekday, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., according to paperwork filed with the City.

Meade Memorial Episcopal, located at 322 N. Alfred St. (see map below), is hoping to open Bright Mind Preschool, a daycare with hopes of admitting up to 50 children, with four classrooms and eight to 10 employees.

A description of the preschool by the proposed owner, Cookie Balcha, states:

“Bright Mind Preschool to provide a safe, developmentally appropriate environment for preschool age children. Our focus is to provide a stimulating early care and education experience which promotes each child’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive development.”

It’s unclear from the planning documents whether there is outdoor play space planned.
