Del Ray Thai Fixture Closing After 25 Years

A venerable Del Ray Thai restaurant will close its doors in June.

ALEXANDRIA, VA – Del Ray stalwart Thai Peppers says it will be closing in June.

The restaurant announced the closure on its Instagram page on Monday. Its last day of service will be June 15.

“With heavy hearts we wanted to inform you that after over 25 years, it’s time for us to say goodbye to our Alexandria-Del Ray location,” the statement reads. “As bittersweet as this moment is, the ‘elders’ of our family [have] decided it’s finally time to retire, to hopefully relax on a beach in Phuket sipping Singhas and Mai Tais.”

The restaurant has operated in Del Ray since 1998, and its social media accounts are filling up with comments from customers saying their goodbyes. The location was beloved for its outdoor seating.

However, Thai Peppers notes, its two other local locations remain open. “Thai Peppers is NOT going anywhere,” the statement says. “The baton has proudly been passed down to the second and third generations, at our Bristow and Haymarket locations. Same family. Familiar recipes. Always love poured into every dish.”
