Wednesday: Developer to Hold Community Meeting About Former Giant Site

North Old Town location is slated to see a mixed-use development including 232 luxury residences.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Representatives from Edens development team are inviting the community to a meeting Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Old Colony Inn, at 1101 N. Washington St. to discuss its development of the site formerly occupied by the Giant store.

They will discuss their development of the space at 530 First St. in north Old Town (see second map below). Edens, probably best known in Northern Virginia for creating the Mosaic District, is looking to redevelop the Alexandria spot into a 22,388-square foot mixed-use development of homes and retail.

An initial site plan shows spaces for an organic grocer, a fitness boutique and apartment homes.

The company’s goals include:

  • Redevelopment with authenticity and respect for the past
  • Sophisticated retail and dining options for the rapidly growing number of local residents
  • Mixed-use development, approximately 232 luxury residences above 50,000 sf of community-centered space
