Did Seattle Knock Off Alexandria as #1 'Most Well Read' City?

Sort of. Amazon has dubbed Alexandria "Most Well Read" the past three years. Now, it's not even on the list. Here's why.

For the past three years, Amazon has dubbed the City of Alexandria the “Most Well Read” in the country.

This week, the company gave the #1 spot to Seattle. Is Alexandria slacking off in the reading department?

Not necessarily. For some unexplained reason, Amazon used a new way to calculate the top “Most Well Read” city.

Now, Amazon is only looking at cities with populations of 500,000 or more when it comes to awarding the “Most Well Read” city in the country, according to a news release from the company. Alexandria’s population hovers around 150,000.

Here is this year’s list top 10 “big cities” that are the “Most Well Read” according to Amazon:

1. Seattle, Wash.

2. Portland, Ore.

3. Las Vegas, Nev.

4. Tucson, Ariz.

5. Washington, D.C.

6. Austin, Texas

7. San Francisco, Calif.

8. Albuquerque, N.M.

9. Denver, Colo.

10. Louisville, Ky.

Seattle happens to be the headquarters for Amazon; Washington DC beat Seattle in the most print books purchased.
